This woud be something nice to have thought out by the time we have the meeting to get the details squared away on the by-laws and such. There seemed to be quite a few of us interested in a name change. Also on that topic, we should also have a logo designed that transfers well to printed material - anyone skilled in this area?

Name suggestions:

Northeast Wisconsin Associated Marine Aquarists (NEW-AMA) - courtesy of eskmick from other thread.

Northeast Wisconin Reef Club - NWRC

Plain Short and Simple....when doing the intro to the club what we are all about you can mention we are members associated with Both Reef tanks and FO tanks.

The Fox Cities and Green Bay and Surrounding Area Reef and Marine Fish Organization?

FCGBSARMO! That's easy, right?!?!?

I (just my opinion) think that a new name and a logo (especially) can wait until after the club is set up more formally. That way the club members can have some input into both in a manner outlined by the new constitution (bylaws, etc). Rather than quickly deciding on a name and logo with the few people who populate this forum now and until the first meeting (I'm sure we have a lot of people with more to do during the holiday season than haunt the forums) I suggest we wait until the "rules" are established and a committee of interested individuals can be put together. They can then put together a new name (if needed at all) and logo that works for the long term.
What's the hurry for a name change?

Northeast Wisconsin Marine Aquarists (NEWMA)

just a variation of the first one, i kinda like

Otherwise how about WATER
Wisconsin Area To Enthused Reefers
jk

No hurry I guess and no rush since we have until the January metting to decide. Just thought it'd be nice to have our name on the docs when we get together and finalize them. I figured this was a fun and easy thing everyone can vote on in the meantime. There can't possiby be any drama for this. Just have people throw out suggestions and post a poll in a few weeks with them and the current name and see what we all want.

FVRC is basically by definition the Fox Cities from what I understand and doesn't even include Green Bay which makes up half the club. Plus on the other thread there were several requests for a new identity to go along with formalization.

Fox valley marine assoction,or Fox valley marine Aqurium society
Fox valley also includes green bay by the meaning fox valley.

Thanks Bri Guy, I think that's perfect .. and for the following reasons (as stated in my post in another thread):

"...to reflect the larger geographic area the club actually serves. Additionally, naming it a "marine" club rather than strictly a "reef" club would more accurately describe all of its members, even those with a fish only setup."

I'm partial to a name that can be made into a "pronounceable" acronym.

I agree with you on the geography of the term "Fox Valley", but dare not mention that observation to most people who live in the Fox cities.
I've had my "wings clipped" more than once on that issue.

I vote for this one too. Nice and Ringy tone to it. I personally don't see what the big deal is on choosing a name before we meet either. I mean alot of the people are still cruising and browsing the forums now. We have been very active within this group discussion as well. Easier way to define ourselves as we work through this process as well. Personally I think we should keep this open until Sunday. Then on Monday take all of the name suggestions and setup a poll and let that run for a week and bingo!!! We have a name to associate with what we all want to do!

I like this one, too (another one with a pronounceable acronym).

It's a good idea to run a poll when all of the suggestions are submitted.

IMO, Fox River Valley, includes any city that the river runs through, including GB

I agree. Then again, there are quite a number of members who live far outside of the Fox River basin (Door County, Algoma, Kewaunee, Pulaski, Two Rivers... and a number of communities west of Appleton).

I have to say I like the regional designation NeW, for me that means south to Sheboygan County, West as Outagamie County, North as Marinette, East as Door County

but then what, certainly reef has to be in there yes? I could see Marine but that has a very broad feel.

And then what are we
Club, Aquarist, enthusist, society
