formalin is something I don’t want to handle plus it isn’t easy for me to get.

Will a 12 hour bath in general cure well aerated sufficiently kill uro and brook?

Not suspecting it, just using it as a safe guard.

Thanks

For brook there is also metro that can be used. One of the same ingredients in general cure. I would not do a 12 hour bath, in any medication.

A small container that long can lead to undue stress while its already weak. I have never treated uro so will let the experts help there.

That’s understandable, I prefer not to use formalin. Fortunately it’s not a must.

You could give the fish a 90min ruby rally bath and follow by treating with metro. If you suspect uronema I would also feed metro.

Uronema: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/uronema-marinum.247940/

As a bath, acriflavine is a good alternative as it has both antiseptic and antiparasitic properties. But alone, I wouldn’t trust it to eliminate brook or uronema.

The only way to be sure, would be to treat with metroplex in a QT (dosed every 48 hours) for at least 14 days, or treat with CP for 30 days if the fish is not sensitive- and knock out brook, uronema, velvet, AND ich.

Made the decision not to quarantine . Lost more fish in quarantine than I ever have going into display.

I took my Hannah copper checker to the lfs I will buy from, and his copper level was at 2.6.

This system houses so called “copper sensitive” fish such as eels, lions, wrasses and gobies. No ramp up time, from shipment to tanks, just drip acclimation.

For me, that rules out ich and velvet, flukes I can treat in tank if they arise, the only ones I’m stuck in are brook/uro, so I’m hoping a dip takes care of them.

Losing close to 1500 in fish, divided by 3 quarantine tanks, all closely monitored told me all I neede to know about qt tanks.

Unfortunately, the only dip that *might* eradicate them completely without further follow-up would be formalin and I still would not be 100% sure without an observation period after. Sometimes using formalin requires more than one dip with transfer to another sterile tank.

Ruby reef rally is acriflavine with a small amount of formalin, but again no guarantees it will fully eradicate anything on its own.

There is a product called safety stop which touts itself as a “rapid fish QT” is basically a formalin bath followed by a methylene blue bath. Again, might lower your chances but not going to be 100% fail-proof, and it’s formalin.

Anything improved over 0 percent is worth it to me. I’ve tried quarantine, tins of water changes, monitor ammonia closely, metro copper, result was still dead fish. Currently 2 for 15 the qt route, so knowing these fish cape from high copper, and flukes I can treat in display, I feel my best hope is into dt
