If I buy a fish from the lfs, should I do a bath before it goes into the qt as a precautionary measure or only give a bath if there is a sign of velvet?
And if I do give a bath, can I use rid ich + and just dose more to match the 37% of Formalin MS?
Thanks

Being that formalin is harsh, I would only use it as a last resort for something that can't be cured using other methods.

I wouldn't recommend it prophylactically.

It's also a known carcinogen and we don't really know the long term effects it has on the fish.

I would recommend the use of acriflavine if you want to give the fish a bath upon arrival using a product like Ruby Reef rally.

I personal would not treat or dose a fish unless need to. They have gone through hell to get to us, one more straw may break the camels back. My 40+ years of experience and still learning, is to put your new fish (alone) in a fresh clean tank with the same quality filtration as your DT. And then observe and give extra loving care.
