Hello all. I'm working on building my 40 breeder sump and I was curious what everyone thought of using formica. I have 1/4" glass baffles cut but when it comes to the fuge area, i'm not exactly sure what to use to block light from creeping out. I have a few scrap pieces of formica that are about 1/8" thick and black. Would anyone suggest not using them along with the glass baffles? I'd basically just secure them to the glass baffles with silicone or something else (if anyone suggests anything else) and call it done.

My other thought was to paint the glass with Fusion but I don't see the paint lasting very long since it's not meant to bond to glass.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

It is made with formaldehyde so I would not use it, but I am far from a chemist

Oh I did not know that. I certainly won't be using that then. I'm also tossing the idea around of using automotive vinyl wrap to essentially wrap the glass and then silicone it into place. Is this a viable option?

I would worry about the adhesive on that but not sure, I have seen people use the plastic school folders and just cut to fit, black acrylic, or black polycarbonate

Very true. I guess i'll go ahead and order some black acrylic. I didn't really want to go that route because my local place requires you to order a full sheet. I'm sure I will use it for something in the future though.
