Hi Everyone,

I've been having trouble getting my zoa to fully open. I move it away from the light and wave maker. However, as I was examining the coral last night I noticed some furry stuff surrounding the polyps and a clear worm-like hitchhiker that slowly appeared on the zoa. I was not able to get a picture in time. Please help...

Yes I was referring to the worm sorry. I don’t know to much about zoa’s So I’m not to sure what’s the cause. I do have three in my tank and they are placed in the upper portion of my tank.
Have you had any drastic changes in parameters ?

How long have you had these? Do you have any others that are looking as bad?

They look like theres some kind of sponge or fungus growing over them. If possible, remove them and clean them with a q-tip and peroxide. It wont hurt them.

I only have this zoa in my tank. Will dipping the coral in a specific solution help?

No drastic changes in the parameters. The zoa just never really open up completely since I added it to the tank.

This zoa has been in my tank for 3 days
Ahh. Give it time and a good cleaning. Some take a week or more to open up. That specific strain of zoa always dies for me on multiple occasions. Not sure why. All others are growing nicely.

I'm concern about that clear looking worm I saw last night. Should I be concerned?

Kind of hard to tell if you should without seeing it but just to be safe, you should dip. 10ml to 4 oz of water for 5 min is the general recipie using saltwater. And rinse with saltwater after before putting it back in the tank..ill link to the original formus for this.

One of mine took awhile to open up after I got it. It still closes and opens at weird times. Did you dip it before putting it in your tank?
I didn't have a chance to dip it. What kind of dipping do you do?

There are several brands of dips out there I got reef dip from my lfs and it’s been good so far. I dip all new corals before putting them in my Qt tank

Thanks for the tip. I'll pick-up a dip solution today. It might be too late to save this Zoa coral.
