Somehow a quarter got into my tank. Dont ask how. No kids or anything to put it in. Does anyone have any speculation as to whether it might harm anything? No clue how long its been there.

Is it all rusted up or does it look ok? Do any corals look upset or does everything seem normal?

Run a polyfilter if in doubt. I think the modern quarters have tin in the middle, and nickle on the outside? A Triton test could tell you for certain in any metals have leaked into the tank. If I found this in my tank, I would suspect spare change that jumped from my top pocket as I was inspecting the tank from above.

A quarter made up mainly of nickel and zinc should have No impact if any.
If in doubt, water change and carbon will help reduce any impacts. Its such a small piece on metal form and unless tank is 25 gals or less, id be the least concerned

Randy Holmes Farley in the Chemistry Forum would be the best guy to ask, IMHO.

I'm just stating my opinion/educated guess, but I think it would have no effect at all.

I put thousands of dollars into my tank, and it's still running OK. My wallet, on the other hand has been severely impacted :). Hopefully Randy will chime in, but I agree with the others that it shouldn't be a problem.

This has been asked before, but the general answer is that nothing will dissolve off of that quarter in our lifetime to cause any harm.
