I just found a deal for a tank with an a80 tuna blue and a whole bunch of other stuff for 50$! I’ll send an update when I see it in person!

Oh yeah I seen that a couple days ago. I wouldnt get kessils again so I passed. They arent getting anywhere in the hobby and growth is not that great. No wonder you find them for sale all on craigslist and letgo now[emoji23]

What are you making that assumption from?

Sounds like a good deal to me! I love my kessils....

Dont get me wrong there are a lot of people that like their kessils but a lot selling them as well. I loved the shimmer and color but quickly sold them because of the growth factor but then again its very hard to find an led that compares to halides and T5 regards to growth. Even employees from stores like Neptunes Aquatics who are sponsored by them comment about the growth I talked to them about why I sold mines. And for the same price range a Radion is a much better option, finding a radion up for resale isnt something you find easily because in the LED realm there are very few that compare. I guess in the end its up to preference and what your willing to tradeoff or sacrifice in a reef tank in regards to growth, color, shading, PAR, etc.

Hmm Ive seen Radions for sale almost as much as if not more thank Kessils. Doesn't mean anything.

There are many reasons why people would sell their kessils. Perhaps they had 360s and due to a tank upgrade they’re selling them for an ap700 upgrade. Or perhaps a misfortune has occurred where they have to liquidate their hobby (marriage, baby you know horrible stuff like that). Regardless of the reason, assuming the light is incapable of growing corals due to you seeing it being sold from hobbyists isn’t a sound reason to discredit the light.

People often and irrationally like to fault equipment for subpar coral grow. And I get it. We are all experts in reefing and if something isn’t going well, well dang it, it must be the lights fault or skimmer or this or that. Stepping back and meticulously Investigating more rational variables is something that is rarely done here.

I can gladly show you my wife’s tank which has a a80 growing SPS. All she has is a 20g with eheim heater, two nano koralias and a HOB filter. No algae what so ever and the rock is covered in coraline.

OP go for the deal!

Thanks! I just talked and it also comes with an a360 and an a180 that they had from previous tanks all together for 100$. I’m really excited!

Great deal! Verify everything is in working order and inspect for cosmetic discrepancies. Granted you’re getting it for a heck of a deal so I personally wouldn’t be too concerned with how it looks as long as it works and the lenses isn’t damaged. Great find and enjoy!

I never said it was incapable of growing coral you just cant compare the growth from a kessil to T5’s or halides but that isnt a fair comparison since I havent heard of any LED’s on the market topping the growth from older forms of lighting. And like Stated before its really a matter of opinion and what your willing to give up. T5 good growth no shimmer, led good shimmer heavy shading, etc. and I understand what you mean by that not being a valid point but a store that specializes in reefing and has a handful of tanks running on kessils and a handful running on other brands I wouldnt think twice about trusting them if they told me growth with kessils is slower. Doesnt make the light bad its just a tradeoff because it does give a great shimmer but not the same growth rate usually. MSB123 apologies for turning this into a lighting debate, its a topic that all reefers will never agree on T5,LED, or halides because every reefer has something that works better for them and its what makes everyones tank unique :) Id love to see your wifes tank im a sucker for nano reefs.

No problem! It’s a good debate to have. I love maxpect, but I don’t like the shimmer very much- too much shading- AI is great for full coverage, but less shimmer.
My 2c

Never tried or seen the maxspect in person but +1 on the AI leds, I liked the coverage and growth but I would only get a decent shimmer when I pushed up the whites but then everything looked browned out

For reference what a kessil A80 is capable of when good chemistry is met.

Simple 20g with heater and two powerhead. And a hang on back filter.

Disregard the flipped and retracted corals. The gold stripe maroon likes to bite Duncans and flip corals.
