I ordered 300 lbs. of the pure white sand from CrystalReef on Ebay (after washing it all, I ended up with 253 lbs). When Shelly sent the 2nd batch my wife found what looks like pyrite in the sand. What if any effects will this have on the inhabitants?

Is that a normal amount of sand loss during rinsing?

I was going to avoid rinsing this go around for that very reason. I'm using two 40 lb bags of Carib Sea pink Fiji with four 40 lb bags of the Florida aragonite which is a larger grain size. I'm sure I'll have cloudy water but figured it was better than losing so much of it.

The sand they sell on eBay and Amazon is so full of junk... I could have lost a lot more if I didn' just deal with it. I have semi cloudy water even after 10 rinses. DONT BUY THAT SAND!

I have used that same sand in a 29 gallon for a few years now, have not noticed any problems. I did rinse it well prior to using. It is very white sand, that is why I gave it a try.
