Found on a deteriorating favia

Pulled a 7up favia after seeing some holes and the green near thr mouths were starting to flake off like paint. Put it in a pee jar (such a cool container to sell frags in) and found this shortly after. No idea what it is....could it be the cause of my favia's demise?

Yep it’s a keeper, Sorry can’t be much help on your coral is it fairly new to your tank?
