I just had to remove 2 of my power heads from my system, one was 1200gph and the other was 800gph. I have a Wall Hammer and an Octospawn that were just getting killed by flow no matter where I put them. So much so that the Hammer started to peel out of its shell, and the Octo wouldn't extend. Removed the power heads, put them more on the bottom and in just very minor flow, and BANG, out they both came.
So, there is a point where you can get to much flow in the tank, for some corals, now Im sure that an SPS tank would loved my 8400gph that I had in there, but the LPS just werent' having a good time, no matter where I placed them. Now I just have 2 3200gph on either side of a 8' long 240g tank, and I can now place the corals where I now have medium and low flow, whereas in 8400gph with 4 powerheads, they were like dogs sticking their heads out the windows and having their tongues pulled out of their mouths.
Now my softies on the other hand love that high flow stuff, didn't mind it a bit, specially the Yellow Figi.
Any thoughts or comments on flow?
