I’m sitting here in the dark waiting to go to work. To add to the BS 2020 year we had a freak wind storm. The power has been off about 24 hours now. I’ve been meaning to get a back up power supply but the high cost has kept me from doing so. I believe I have lost all my fish and invertebrates. Maybe I’ll luck out and the power will return on time. My cleaner shrimp is still alive I know. Just some advice expect the unexpected. Don’t do like I did. Just saying

Sorry! They probably died from lack of oxygen you can manually mix the tank, or buy a battery powered air pump, there’s also chemical ways to add oxygen in a power outage. An air pump on a computer UPS will run a long time too.

Here it is:

I’m sorry about your losses I hope everything left makes it! I know it’s a little pricey but my Honda generator was the best purchase for my tanks.

So sorry to hear about this.

Its hard to lose a pet but now ypu can better prepare yourself for the next time.

I hope more survived than you think.

Here’s an interesting question. I wonder if “I have a reef tank with my beloved fish and corals and other stuff” has ever prevented a power outage for the sake of having stuff repaired or something similar? LOL.

Power inverter ( cheap) extension cord and a car with a full tank of gas for those that can’t afford a generator.

Battery powered air bubbler that turns on when power goes off attached to your tank always is a cheap, good investment.

I've actually ran an extension cord from my wife's car, that has a power inverter in it, to run powerheads during a power outage before. I now have a battery backup and a portable generator that we use camping in case I need it.

We lost power twice in the past few months before buying a generator. I was able to keep everything alive by doing partial water changes every few hours. Not the easiest thing to do but they're alive..

I was able to find a computer back up on offer up for $30. I have one mp40 hooked up to it in case of power outage.
I have no idea how long it would last but luckily we have not had any power outages I’m aware of. M
Sorry about your loss man, good luck! Keep us updated

I have this on hand

I haven't hooked it up yet...I really never lose power for more than a couple hours once or twice a year.
