Found these in my fluval, copepods?

I found these growing in my canister filter. Are they good guys or bad? Some look like shrimp, others like the things in the pic.

The small things you describe as looking like shrimp may be amphipods...good things.

I'm not exactly sure what the items in the pictures are, though. Are they soft to touch (like a pineapple sponge) or hard (like a snail shell)?

Definitely not snail shell, softer to the touch.

The ones that look like shrimp I imagine are amphipods. The ones in the picture look like pineapple sponge, but it's kind of hard to tell out of the water. I'm betting on sponge.

They're pineapple sponges. They're just laying down because they're out of water Put them back in and they'll stand straight up.
