Found this during coral dip. Good or bad??

Hello everyone. What is this thing? I've never seen something this big that looks like a pod and it doesn't look like a bristle worm either. Thank you for the feedback!

Amphipod. These "pods" are beneficial scavengers and detritivores and are larger than the more common copepods.

I have them amphipod in my tank . Never caused a problem .

I like to save them from dips as they are great additions to any tank

dang, I wish he was still alive . The dip killed him, but he was also in the same dip that an asterina starfish came out of, so even if he was alive, I would have never put it into my tank :O

+1 to amphipod. I have amphipods in my tank. It seems like everytime I pick up a frag plugs there's 2 or 3 on the stem hanging out away from the light. I also frequently see amphipod exoskeletons floating so either they're doing well and growing or my Melanurus Wrasse doesn't like the shells! Either way, good food source for corals and pod fish, good addition to the CUC.

IME they are good guys and very common, your tank should already have them. Some people think they can harm some soft corals like Zoas under certain circumstances, but I have never seen that.

I do not have pods like these in my tank. I am not sure where to buy some of these from? Any recommendations? I don't believe algae barn sells these?

I would not worry too much
you/we dip to remove unwanted additions to your aquarium which is priority along with survival of the coral you have dipped.
as long as coral is good and no nasties introduced to aquriam then you can purchase a variety of pods/ copepods/ amphipods to introduce yourself when your ready

+1. I never got any hitchhikers on my Chaetomorpha, though I have found amphipods on macroalgae from Gulf Coast Ecosystems.

If it laid eggs then they more then likely survived as most dips do nothing to the eggs . If you ever get a star fish out break a harlequin shrimp will make short work of them .
