It could be an algae of some type. I would watch it for a few weeks. If it is a small montipora cap or something you should see very small polyps. Algae's can be many different colors and textures.

Not desired in an sps tank, however in my experience there has been no ill effects in mine. Vermetid snails are bad for stony corals, coral crabs keep em in check
