Found this nightmare, err, bristleworm just now... is it a fireworm?

Just spotted this guy and while my 7 year old already named it "Wormy", I'm creeped out, lol. It is probably a good 4-6" long, and this is a first sighting. I think it's the good kind, but want to be SURE. I tried to grab it with tweezers to get a better look, and it broke off a piece if its body and retreated. Yuck.

I never thought I'd have one, as I started with dry rock and dipped everything that's gone into my tank - EXCEPT a decent sized rock I bought from a local reefer with a bunch of mushrooms. Guessing that's what it hitchhiked in on, lol!

yes, just a normal bristleworm. Fireworms are wider, more bright red and have tufts of white hair on them.

Now I feel bad that I ripped off a piece of him... I'm guessing it'll live though? Regenerate like a lizard tail?

yes sometimes if you split enough of the worm it will become another worm.

I figured that might be the case. It was a really tiny piece - I flushed it. I'll leave the worm be going forward lol.

Oh I'm sure there were a few times throughout their teenage years, I probably felt like evicting them like I wanted to evict the bristleworm, lol. I love them, but luckily they did eventually move out!
