Hey reefers!

I'm setting up my second tank next week (first tank pic attahced). It’ll be a FOWLR with four residents off the bat: porcupine puffer (“Arnold”), vampire trigger (“Nandor”), frog fish (“Tempura”), and an engineer goby (TBN).

The tank is going to be a 132 gallon RedSea Reefer 500 Peninsula. It’ll have a 25W UV but it’ll be off at the start.

I have 70 lbs of starter live rock from KP Aquatics and plan on having sand as well.

I plan on using RedSea coral pro salt mix and I was going to start dosing microbacter7, algaebarn’s, oceanmagick, and copepods from day one.

I was wondering what advice others have for getting the tank ready for the fish other than patience :)

Nice set up and plan! I also used KP aquatics live rock in my peninsula 500 with great success. Watch the ammonia levels as die off will occur, keep up with daily or every other day water changes, especially with 70lbs going in. I honestly don't think you need MB7, you will have plenty of nitrifying bacteria on your live rock.

Thanks! How long till you put fish in?

Also gonna have a clown trigger, emperor angel, and copper and butterfly. Anyone see any issue with adding eels to this list?

Here is a pic of the setup cycling.

Beautiful set up but are you concerned about light spill from the glass door causing algae issues?

skip the clown trigger, get a bluethroat, or a niger , both will be very nice with your crew....clows are cute when small but eventually get too intense for the rest of your fish and thats like 3-4 inches....... my 5inch clown terrorizes a panther grouper twice his size in my tank and hes taken out a few fish. all the other triggers get out of his way , most are bigger than he is. ive been trying to catch him and put him in our bigger predator tank but hes super smart .

nice man I had the RS 650P for a reef. long story but traded it off and getting the IM 200 peninsula for a FOWLR.

glad you skipped the emp. angel they get big. same with the poc. puffer might to re home it after a few years or get a bigger tank.

how was the KP rock? got pic of it in the bag or when you 1st got it. did you get the base stuff or the premium stuff? shipped wet air cargo or UPS?

KP rock was really great. I got the starter rock, not the other one. It comes overnight UPS and temp controlled. They ran out of the wet one that ships in water but apparently it’s back in stock now. I love it and great shopping experience!

Thanks for asking! It’s pretty rad. Here is my livestock list:
  • Frogfish, “Tempura"
  • Zebra eel, “Gene Simons"
  • Clown trigger, “Dekembe"
  • Vampire trigger, “Nandor"
  • Engineer goby, “Jesus"
  • Porcupine puffer, “Arnold"
I had a powder tang but he was eaten by Tempire.

My live rock is from KP Aquatics.

Here are some pics.

I added corals. Specifically, mushrooms, zoas and a duncan. Interesting that so far they’ve only been nibbling at the toadstool. Hoping that will subiside.
