So, my tank is currently just fish with rock, no corals yet (i'd like to start adding some hardy ones soon).
Since it has no corals, I've only been testing my calcium levels once in a while, just to kinda get a historical baseline. So far, the values have been [514, 486, 481, 482, 526] and from what I've read, for corals I'm targeting somewhere in the 350-450 range. I do have sand, and a fair amount of crushed coral/shell + a couple of handfuls of shells (for the crabs to move into & generally just to look pretty).
Should I expect my calcium levels to be a bit high until there is a calcium consumer (corals) in the tank?
Is it anything to worry about at all, until there are coral residents?
My pH seems to be stable at 8.0, bumping up to about 8.2 after a water change. I know this is a little low from ideal... how hard should I chase 8.1-8.4?
Same basic question about dKH... I've been hovering around 7.8 +/- 0.1, so a bit lower than the 8.0-12.0 target range.
