Hi all!

just wanted a little advice.....

Running 190ltr (50 US gallon) FOWLR, is fully cycled and have 2 common clowns, 2 turbo snails and 1 red legged hermit crab.

Carried out 1st weekly water change last night (running canister), cleaned canister, replaced carbon and floss.

Water is a little cloudy today, ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, nitrate 15ppm.

Is this level of nitrite acceptable for a FOWLR?

Also is the cloudiness cause for concern?

thanks!

Usually 10-40ppm is considered an acceptable range for Nitrates in a fish only aquarium. You shouldn't have a problem at 15, might fuel a bit of algae growth though.

You asked if your level of nitrite is acceptable, but you said it is zero? If you meant is your level of nitrate acceptable than for a fowlr in my opinion 15 isn't bad at all. Many times peoples reef tanks are near that level.

I can't tell that your water is cloudy from the picture, but cloudy water in a new tank is often a sign of a bacterial bloom, and if that is the case the only issue is that it will decrease the oxygen level in the tank, so doing things to keep the oxygen level up is important.

Apologies, meant nitrate!

Thank you, will keep O2 up and don't plan any more livestock until next year at the earliest.
