Hi All,

Just noticed that my foxface has small bumps on its body which are either black or white in color. Is this ich?

I have had him for close to a year now. He eats well and is responding to everything well. He is fairly active as well.. unable to figure out what is wrong with him.

Thanks,
Rev

Picture would be helpful. Can be ich, flukes or other parasite

Here are a few pics

Black spot disease also called black ich which is caused by a parasite that commonly infests tangs and rabbitfish and can be contracted by other fish and shellfish as well. Black spot disease is also referred to as tang disease or black ich, although ich is actually caused by a different type of parasite. The black spots on the fish are tiny turbellaria flatworms imbedded in the skin of the fish. Black spot parasites are much less dangerous and life-threatening, and easier to treat, compared to protozoan parasites such as ich.

typical treatment is freshwater dip, followed by a formalin bath and continuing treatment in a quarantine tank. Praziquantel has been used with some success to treat affected fish in quarantine tanks. You can also try PraziPro

Usually doesn’t kill them but Nems can have a negative reaction to prazipro

Lfs also said it was some
Sort of parasit. So prazipro it is!

Should I catch the fish and treat him in a hospital tank? Or just dose prazi in the reef?

Prazipro will kill any bristle worms, feather dusters, possibly bad side effects on nems. If you’re worried about that I suggest a separate QT.

I always prefer not to add meds to my reef, just preference though.
