Hello Everyone,

I'll try to keep it brief, video is attached of the fish:

I have had this foxface for about a year, up until recently was eating well and very social. I have been busy lately so I haven't been paying super close attention during feeding but I know up until about a week ago he had been eating. I noticed yesterday that he didn't eat at all. Swam out for food but did not eat. Today he spent a lot of time under rocks, but tonight at feeding time he's unable to swim.

I assume this is the end, but I want to know if anyone has any clues to what happened? Water parameters seem fine, no ammonia or nitrites, nitrates are a little high around 25 ppm.

Thanks in advance,

This fish unfortunately is moribund, being weak and thinning. I believe I see a scar on its left sside in video but hard to detect asthe lighting is Very blue. Its breating is elevated and with it Not eating and losing its swimming capability may end in loss.
Are other fish displaying any unusual or lethargic behavior?
Are other fsh eating ? What foods are you feeding ?

Yes sorry for the lighting, I wanted to snap a video when he was out. Looks like I'll have to fish him out, the snails are about to get to him.

All other fish seem normal, eating just fine.
I feed frozen food defrosted in a medicine cup and fed out of a pipette. Usually Mysis and spirulina mysis, nori is fed to them as well.

I should mention that we have been in the middle of a heat wave in Dallas. The aquarium is sitting around 81.4-7 degrees. Normally it is around 77. Could that be causing something?

The video doesn’t load for me.

High temperature will lower oxygen but not at a high level
Sir stone can help with that

As predicted, the fish didn’t make it, can anyone make sense of these readings from my voltage meter? I’m not expert. Skip to the end if it is too long

EDIT: video won’t post, I’ll fix it

Video still doesn’t load for me :( can you upload to YouTube and post the link?

Sorry to hear.
While not a contageous issue, do keep an eye on the others and focus on ammonia-ph-salinity-temperature this time of the year

Sorry for the loss :( foxface is one of my favorite. I have a big guy in my tank.

Question: did you quarantine the fish or did you buy it already quarantined?

Reason why I ask is I feel like he had some sort of internal parasite that can be removed with a proper quarantine just based on how skinny he is. The eating stopped which makes me think that’s what it was. I’m not a fish disease expert by any means but I’ve witness/experienced this similar thing with other fish.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep an eye out. So far they all seem to be eating good. Ammonia and pH were fine, I was worried about that when I saw he was sick. I will try a grounding probe too

I loved that fish too. It was already medicated when I bought it, although I doubt it had much of a quarantine procedure. I bought it from a local hobbyist who told me he received them already treated with copper and would do a quarantine on him. Maybe the stress of the heat caused the parasite to take over. I had him for almost exactly a year.
