Hey everyone.
my LFS just got the fox face in that I ordered.
My QT has a few fish in it and is it 2.5ppm with chelated cooper (copperpower)
Can I put the foxface in or will it be too much of a shock to him

It will start the clock over for the QT period for all fish. Copper power is more gentle and is usually best to start at half dose and raise to full dose 12-24 hours later.

Acclimate to the qt tank

I'm firmly in the No Ramp camp when it comes to Copper Power and CopperSafe. I've never found it necessary to ramp up when using chelated copper. I dose up to 2.5ppm right away. I always use 1.5ml per gallon when dosing copper power.

I would only ramp up when using cupramine.

I always do. Was worried about long term risk
If it’s as simple as that, works for me lol
Yes. Just go the full 30 days and monitor both copper levels and water quality

You can put the foxface into full copper power right away (dealers do this with new fish all the time). However, as pointed out, it will reset your copper quarantine for your older fish back to day zero.

Also, be aware that some LFS hold their fish at much lower specific gravity than your tank may be at. And THAT can pose a problem, even with acclimation, the fish just can't adjust to a SG rise that well.

Okay.
I’ll put him in there and restart the timer.
i was planning on leaving them in QT for 14-20 days.
And my LFS keeps them at 1.025 ish, which is what I keep mine at.
I got the long nose hawk and naso from big Al’s, and they keep their SG very low, I acclimated for about an hour and 15 minutes and they are doing okay

Why are you treating a non-symptomatic fish with copper??

disease can be dormant in their system and only arise when they are stressed, so would rather not have them bring ick into my system.
I’m new but that’s what my research, others and BRS say.
why do some LFS have fish in copper when they are initially brought in and not symptomatic to the day they’re sold?

I would not use an LFS's protocol as a guide for how I treat my fish. They have such a high turnover rate that, usually, they can't really quarantine or treat anything. Many run low salinity (as mentioned above) as well since this can hide the symptoms of some illnesses.

While I know some people treat every fish with multiple meds prior to adding to the display tank, I personally don't medicate unless I see an issue -- observational quarantine only.

And ich isn't "dormant", it just has different lifecycle stages. Healthy fish will usually be fine even if there is ich in the tank... (and I would bet that most tanks end up with ich at some point even if the fish never show symptoms)

This isn't to say your methods are wrong, I was just curious about the reasons. Copper treatment itself can be stressful to the fish.

Not to change the subject, but the foxface was a good choice... Mine is a real character, lol!

I’ve done a lot of research and feel that chelated copper is the way I want to go.
I watch my fish a lot and if I were to see them in distress, I would stop copper immediately.
I don’t that their health and wellness lightly.
and yes. I’ve wanted a foxface since I decided I wanted to go salt water

Copper power is very mild, to both fish and parasites, 30 days is a better length of time.

Mine survived brook and ich well going through a 30 day Coppermine treatment and Formalin dip.
shes still with me almost 5 years later from my first tank. Now I qt and Cupramine all new fish and qt coral and inverts. Only can continue to improve from our mistakes.
