So I added a new very small Valentini puffer and my large foxface has decided to attack it? He is usually peaceful with new additions but keeps attempting to nip the puffer?

will the aggression subside? Is there possibly something I can try to defuse the aggression?

Thanks in advance.

No wasn’t expecting harassment from foxface. I guess if it continues I may need to catch the puffer and try that out, thanks for suggestion.

Yeah that’s probably a good idea, if I add another fish in the future will try it.

I have a one spot and have been very surprised when I see him bully my orange shoulder tang, which was there before him and a bit larger. I've seen him raising his spikes toward others as well, mine at least is a sly devil. His bullying is very passive, these guys may be a bit overlooked in the aggression department. There will always be a certain level of aggression when dealing with certain species in a captive environment, the key is when is enough, enough.

Yeah very true, it seems that the foxface is being more passive towards the puffer now perhaps just establishing himself to the new fish, unfortunately now my wrasse has started to nip the puffer[emoji853] hoping it’s also just establishing itself and will pass. Thanks for the help.

I have never seen such aggression from a foxface but it is a small tank for such a big fish. It is a calm fish normally so I will not say the tank is too small but I consider it near the limit.
Most (maybe all) fishes are more aggresive in small tanks. I have always seen the rising of the spikes as a defensive action and my foxface only did it when other fishes came too close.

Yeah the tank is the limit for the foxface but the aggression has seemed to subside so I think it was just showing his dominance to the puffer, as he is the king of the tank. Was just weird seeing him attack another fish, only happened one other time with a eel and he is usually very passive to new additions.
