Hi everyone,

This is the first time I am quarantiing a new fish, a foxface. He was extremely shy and was frequently in camouflage colors throughout the day and stayed in hiding every time I approached the tank. The first few weeks I thought this was probably normal. But then he started with head twitching and I saw a long white string like poop (only once) so I treated with Prazipro twice 7 days apart. A few hours after initial treatment of prazi there were a bunch of bumps along his lateral line that were not visible before treatment but they went away by next day. They were not white in color, just like yellow pimples. I also noted 8-10 small white balls in the tank that were not there before several hours after treatment. If it were ich or flukes do you actually see them in tank like this? In any case he seemed better several days after treatment as far as head twitching and color much better. Also swimming more actively in tank. But then he seemed to regress after a week with more head twitching and camouflage coloring during the day. I did not see any white spots but decided to start him on copper (cupramine) and its been a week at a therapeutic dose. He eats well, and his color and activity has been its best so far. But he is still excessively shy and stays in hiding any time i approach the tank. The only time I can see him up close is for a few minutes after i put nori in the tank. I guess his love for nori overcomes his fear for a minute. I've had him in quarantine for 5 weeks now. Is this excessive shyness normal, or does it indicate he still has some type of illness/parasite? I plan to keep him at therapeutic copper for 3 weeks. Thanks.

Sounds like normal Fox Face acclimation behavior. It's does get better over time, mine did and still does occasionally act as you describe.

BTW, welcome to R2R. :-)

Long string-like poop is intestinal worms. Metroplex +focus laced food will take care of it. Just feed for at least 10 days.

You won't see ich in the tank after a treatment. Flukes maybe, depending on the type but your two doses of Prazi should have taken care of that.

Hiding in QT (from you) is normal. Hiding all the time, or sensitivity to light can indicate parasites.

I hope this helps! Good luck

+1 on staying the course with copper, just in case
