Hi

I just purchased a foxface and placed him in my refuge temporarily and I can't find him. I have sand on the bottom. Could he be hiding in the sand like a wrasse does?

Thanks

I have never seen them bury themselves, but they do frighten easily. They will go into camo mode when scared and flatten themselves against a rock to hide.

Foxfaces tend to camouflage due to spooking easily, its prolly still there. Be careful with putting your hand in and not knowing where it is. That sting from the venomous spines hurts more than a little bit.

Unfortunately I find him in painful fashion. I was looking around in the Sump overflow and got stung.... Lo(pun intended) and behold he got caught up in the flow... just barely alive unfortunately

Why buy a fish and put him in the sump??????????
Unfortunately it was by accident. I was accumulating him in a 2 quart bucket in the sump and the bucket tipped into the refuge. I thought he might as well stay there for a while to calm down and also having plenty of algae to munch on thought it would be a good idea temporary. Had a overflow barrier but unfortunately he found a small spot that was open. I learned my lesson unfortunately. Been doing this for years and never happened!

Yeah FF are stupid creatures. Im surprised mine is still alive. (Stuck on the back of the WM twice, intake once and get scared of his own shadow.)

Sorry to hear that . Hope he recovers !!!

I got my one spot about a week ago and he's only recently started coming out to feed when I'm in front of the tank (up until yesterday he was just hiding in a cave whenever I went to checkout the tank). They are definitely camouflage experts - they can blend in nearly perfect with the rock work.

Add aeration and assure proper salinity and temperature.

I’ve almost been caught by my foxface too many times… I have always kept magnificents and their white body is usually an easy spot but once they camouflage its a complete game of advanced hide and seek.
This is my current guy, what species did you go for?
