Foxface hiding in corner changing colors after adding to tank

I got some decent video just now... my water is a bit cloudy.. I think because they’re pecking at the rocks constantly... ? It was totally clear before I added them.. hmm.

The cloudiness is most likely Bacteria and a mini cycles that happens when you add fish and they produce waste.

Slow down on any over feeding which you might be doing excited to make your fish happy.

Keep an eye on it, and if it get super cloudy, add a air stone to increase oxygen. Bacteria bloom can rapidly consume oxygen and your fish could sufficate.

You might also want to watch Ammonia & Nitrite levels and that means testing Nitrite and Ammonia which at toxic levels can kill fish.

So whenever I add new fish to a fairly new tank the best (EASY) thing to add for Early Warning is Amonia Alert Tag.

Just stick it on Glass. When it's changes color, you get warning and then can do things like Water Changes, etc.
Lasts for months.

I’m testing twice daily.. I had a little amon spike to .25 yesterday but today it was 0.. nitrite 0.. nitrate is between 5 and 10... keeping a close eye on those while I increase the bioload. Thanks for the heads up. !!

edit: I’m watching these guys rip algae off the rocks and white debris is flying off with it... I think the cloudy is at least partially that. :). But yeah new tank and bacteria bloom.. very possibly. I’m testing twice daily for amon, nitrite, nitrate...doing ph and alk too every other day..

Congrats on the New Fish. It's nice to see how much you enjoy them, and I take note that you also worry when they look stressed.

If you enjoy those 3 fish that you added to a Fairly new tank, and you are lucky enought that they don't get sick with anything......
Consider in the future when you get the itch to add more fish, which will probably come sooner than later.....to start doing QT on your next fish before adding to your Safe Disease Free Tank. To protect the fish in your Tank.

Nothing is worse for me the seeing fish get sick and slowly die.

I know it's tough to make the effort of doing QT.
I've been lucky for years. Over a two decades....then one day I added just one more...it brought in Velvet and wiped out all my Fish Tank Buddies, including my best buddy a tang that was with me for over ten years, thru all the good times and bad times.

Just trying to save you the pain I went thru....and to ensure your Happiness continues.
yes for sure it’s a large worry... my LFS qts all incoming fish with copper for a week.. then they get moved to the for sale area... but yes I’m very much thinking I need a QT tank for all incoming wet items ... per say... thanks very much for the advise ... I do need to think forward on this.. way down the road.

Keeping an eye on things.. im only feeding them one cube of frozen per day.. I have two fire shrimp in there as well ... they graze so much I don’t feel the need to feed them any more than that.. waiting for sunup so I can check the water soon. :)

I got an air pump today (topfin 4000 something) dual air outlets.. using it on my mixing station right now.. I might drop the lines in the sump until the cloudiness clears... foxy doing so well... her and the sailfin are best buds... the kole is obsessed the one corner swimming against the clear wall... not attacking it but just swimming ... like it wants to go further and the wall is just blocking it... I’ll add video.. maybe I should start a separate thread for that?

The cloudiness is clearing up and everyone is happy, grazing, all over the tank... I can stand in front of the tank and everyone comes out and acts normal... wow. Really cool. I’m super happy.

Thanks everyone for all the advice and support.

ps: conches are so cool, I have three cleaning the sand bed.

Yeah foxy is pretty chill now.. out with the sailfin 90% of the time.. I can watch them from the front of the tank pretty easily now.. the kole is a bit more skittish actually lol. But now I’m having a bacterial bloom issue.. opening a separate thread for that. Thanks everyone

Update: foxy is super happy swimming all over, grazing like CRAZY.. and WAY less skittish to the point where I can approach the tank without any hiding. The Sailfin (Beverly - idk why just happened) and Foxy hang out all day together.. the Kole comes in for group hugs but then does it's own thing a bit.. That one is the most skittish now.

These three fish, 25 astraea snails, and three conches turned my tank from a brown diatom disaster to looking 90% normal againin like four days? .. They are sooo busy eating constantly. The brown is growing back a bit and now green too.. but they're just little eating machines keeping it pretty reeled in except for the clear bits (aquarium face and sides).

Excellent. So glad you’re came out of its shell and is sociable.

Let me know when you want a real skittish foxface and we can trade!

Hi all.. I just added a sailfin tang and a foxface to my new tank freshly cycled.. the tang is super happy and grazing already but the foxface is hiding in a corner turning dark colors and breathing fast.. I did a 20 min fast track acclimation because he looked so stressed ... I read no more than 30 mins with them due to extreme stress.. it’s only been 45 mins.. at what point should I worry ? A day or two? The tang is so chill I can’t believe it.. it’s acting like it’s been here for years.. crazy. Very opposite from foxy.. anyways I just want all my fish to be happy.. like everyone here I reckon lol. :)

Yup loke someone said the fox face are skittish. Every time I go near the tank he hides. You have to admire him from afar lol
