Foxface Lo distressed overnight

Husband is bringing home copper treatment when he gets home from work. I don't notice anything with the other fish. Foxface has been in for several months but we did add trigger and angel over a week ago.

You might have him pick up Furan 2 and/or kanaplex as well. How long has he looked/acted this way? Has it been days, a week or just today?

This looks like an infection. How long has he been this way? What -if any- medications do you have on hand? Is there an LFS near you, that you can get to today?

I also agree that he's VERY skinny. Poor baby. Oh and welcome to R2R! Sorry about the circumstances though. :(
We feed 3 times a day, seaweed, pellet and two kinds of frozen shrimp. He was perfectly fine when we went to bed last night and this is how I woke up to him this morning. Don't have mess on hand but waiting on husband to get off work to bring some home. I am not able to leave the house to get any right now

Just started today. Never been like this before.

OK. Seems like a pretty severe infection. Have your husband bring home Kanaplex and Furan2 - most fish stores will carry this (not pecto or petsmart though). Get your QT set up while you are waiting. He might not be savable, but we can give it the best shot we have. :)

Take a look at the list on the second post. It is a great reference on what to have on hand. As you have noticed, some of these issues strike quick so having the meds on hand is very helpful!

He might be able to pick up some of these on his way home with the copper.

I would get a new tank setup asap and move the fish over. Your tank is way over stocked and your nitrate is, to most us, very high instead of " a little high". I would suggest you take out all the crushed coral and throw them away. It has been known to cause nitrate problems. Also protein skimmer is not a must and you can skip it, but that means you need to do regular water changes, like 20-30% every week. With your live stock it's more like 40-50%.
Good luck. We all went through what you are going through. This hobby is not easy and learning is member ending.

I just saw someone else today talk about the crushed coral being bad so that will definitely go. We do the weekly water changes at 20% but can definitely up the amount. I hate that the person we looked to for help misinformed us on so much. Definitely a leaning curve and will continue to use this forum for sure. Everyone has been so nice and so helpful, especially since I am so uneducated on some is this.

Misinformation is common but you're in the right place now with good advice thus far. I agree with @melypr1985 that an infection is likely a component of this. Also foxface discolor drastically at night and with stress but the face of that fish looks pretty bad. If you didn't qt there's a really good chance you have velvet and I agree it sort of looks like that as well.

If the fish is eating well and still that thin then it's got parasites perhaps multiple ailments that are sucking the nourishment out. Velvet and ich can even do this but internal parasites are the most likely culprit.

Red nori is my go to for thin herbivores.

Good luck I hope it pulls through!

Unfortunately he didn't make it. I will take precautions with the other fish in the tank as far as medications that you provided details on and will be getting a new, bigger tank as well.

I'm sorry for the loss :(

Thank you. Each of us in the family had their own fish and this was mine and one we had the longest so it is sad. Just gonna take a day at a time now and make sure my others stay healthy.

I'm late, but I agree your rabbitfish likely succumbed to a bacterial infection. These are often secondary to a pre-existing parasitic infestation so I would watch all your other fish very closely in the coming days...
