Hey guys, I have a frag tank hooked into my reef, Im looking for something to keep it clean, i have some algae growing on the frag rack and my clean up crew/starry blenny doesn’t touch it, I had a small powder brown in there till he got to big and I moved him to my reef. I figured a 2” fish is perfect for my 36 x 24 x 12 frag tank. Please give me ur insight, or anything else recommended.

So I have both a Kole Tang and a Fox Face in the same tank. Thankfully I do not deal with any aggression. They get along perfectly.

But if I had to choose one for there cleaning expertise, it would all depend on the type of algae you have.

My fox face did wonders on the bubble algae. I no longer have a bubble algae problem. As for my kole tang, he did wonders on my rocks with hair algae and other little stuff as well. Including the kole tang attempts to clean of my glass well.

But I got both and love them both.

Depending on how much you feed that foxface it will most likely outgrow the tank within a couple years. Kole should be fine forever in that 36'' tank but I'm not sure he will eat the hair algae. They are film algae eaters. Maybe he can keep it clean if you scrape the hair algae down to a tiny nub but I doubt it.

edit...since they are both very popular and would be easy to give away, I would get them both and never worry about having a spec of algae in that tank :). But that's just me. I have never worried about giving a fish away when it gets big or I end up not liking it. Can usually trade them to a local reefer for a coral frag or two.

I have a whiteail and a magnifecent in a 5 footer. No issues, get both they will establish territory and together they will eat the algae the other does not.

The white tail bristletooth is one of my dream tangs. Will gladly swap out the Kole for that fish when I get the chance.

My magnificent is the biggest wuss. He is the second biggest fish in the tank apart from my niger trigger (my pfp). He's always in camo and gets pushed around sometimes for the nori sheet I feed my tangs.

I would go with fox face if you have bubble and hair algae, and kole if you have slime algae on glass panes and/or on rocks. A combo of both would do wonder.
