Hey all,

After reading as much as I could I can’t seem to find an answer to this.

I have added a foxface to the reef and he has been in there for about a month or so.

At first there was a bit of territory stuff but nothing too crazy. Now he is fine and eats pretty well everything I put in.

Question is about his coloration. He has black all across his back and won’t change back to his black dot and yellow back. How long should this take for him to change back?

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Ian

Coloration will vary greatly based on his mood.

Mine is rarely fully yellow with the spot except for when he eats and is happy.

Same here. Although mine stays mostly yellow. A healthy diet of Seaweed/Nori plus a diversified diet (ie LRS Reef Frenzy) definitely helps out.

@ the OP, here is what mine looks like most of the time when the lights are on and keep in mind he has been in the tank for just over a year now, when I first got him he looked a lot like yours:

Oh nice. Thank you. I will try some Lrs.

I've had this guy for about 3 years, I never feed nori but I feed a couple of cubes of Hikari mega algae daily. It's a mature tank with grazing and he loves it when I scraped the glass, otherwise he eats what everyone else eats.

It really is a mood thing. Also they will sheed mucus from time to time. Nothing to worry about. If they are irritated they may flick fins as well.
