I have a very healthy (and large) one spot FF - in fact, started a whole new tank (FOWLR) because of him. I just noticed this morning he apparently has decided to add a second black spot to one side of him below the original. Not connected - totally separate. Just on the one side. Same look as the others so not an injury or infection, etc. I wish I could say how long its been there or if it was growing without me noticing, but he doesn't always show himself to me on demand. I'd say it close to a quarter size. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or know anything about it - thanks.

These fishes are known to change coloration when they are stressed. Quite a few post every year about “My Foxface Colors Changed / Faded” etc.
Adding a spot sounds similar to me.

Thanks - yes, he certainly likes to go "camo" at times or gets pale during (I guess) times of stress or when he's sleeping. I do have some other more aggressive fish in the tank (h tusk, trigger) but he seems to get along just fine with them. In fact he's the biggest fish in there and certainly doesn't have any issues getting his fair share at meal time.

First time mine faded I thought it had a skin infection. I watched him for a few days and found out that he was a chameleon.

Yes, he is quite the master of disguise. I'd say he looks pretty healthy, tho. Agreed?
