Foxface Rabbitfish in a 45 gallon?

They will eat them if you feed them fresh Caulerpa that are not prey on my tangs. They don't often eat Caulerpa that grow in DT.
It is very possible that as Caulerpa being eaten by fish, they start to form chemical that deter fish from browsing on them. When this pressure is remove, the algae no longer produce this bad tasting chemical and make it a lot more palatable to the fish.
I have nothing to back this up, other than it is just my hunch and this is a fairy common strategy of plants use to deter grazing.

The algae I was testing with was gracilaria parvispora I believe. Red. There is a yellow that also resembles it. In any case great stuff and my tangs and rabbit love it.

Is it similar to this stuff? My friend grows macro and said tangs will eat this stuff. Plus it’s really beautiful.

That is very pretty. No, mine is thinner. It isn't leafy like that. I've heard tangs will eat what you and Orion described.
Sorry to highjack the OP’s thread. But he sent me these. The first is clearly caulerpa.

All you are doing is satisfying your desires. You're not being kind to the animal you are keeping. Imagine keeping a Great dane in a 8X8 foot room and never letting it out.
Most fox faces are wild caught you can’t compare the open ocean to any size tank I’m sorry Doesn’t matter if it’s 45 gallons or 500 gallons. Bottom line if the fish seems happy is eating well and not swimming around in circles or discolored then it’s fine.

Whilst I agree you can’t compare the tank to the ocean, you can absolutely compare a 45 to a 100. Foxfaces are one fish that whilst they aren’t highly active they really do want 4’ of room to swim round in and be happy long term.

How much is good feeding for tang and foxface?
Here are a few image
I often take a rock full of algae from my refugium and put it into my DT.

Here are my three tangs. The Chevron is no longer with us, but the other two are in my tank right now. They are full like that all the time. Poop a lot. especially in AM.
