Foxface Reef Safe?

I could have had the rare bad one, I don' have any experience with others, but it was quite devastating, after I sold him it has slowly started recovering.

Im running out of ideas of what fish to add now lol. I just want some size and reef safe, I might take this risk and trade it back if I get problems

Fox face /rabbit fish for most part are reef safe butthetes always one here and there that is used to eating corals or inverts. Best thing to do is QT and observe it before adding to your display I've had many fox face before with out any issues aside from their venemous spines they don't pick at coral or inverts but I have heard cases with service and maintenance guys having issues and removing them for clients aquariums due to them going after coral and inverts.

They are known to graze on zoas and nipping at SPS tip, mine does this when it has built a taste on certain corals. When they become dominant in a tank (king/queen), the tendency to try something new is almost certain. Are they hungry?. Nope, mine is super fat. Sometime it just grab some zoas and spit it out in front of you . He is now swimming in the sea.

Do you have a tang? They generally are reef safe and can get large depending on what you get.

Zero tangs, I was advised to add them last due to territorial aggression

That's good advice, in my aquarium I just have 2 clowns, 2 lyretails, 1 sapphire damsel and a yellow tang in my 150. Overall I am happy with colors and its peaceful. Good luck with whatever you try, its' kinda trial and error.

Yes! But.....mine went rogue and killed everything in my tank. I’m going to hopefully catch him and get him out of the there.
This was the one fish I couldn’t wait to have. For me..never again.

Same here, I always wanted a Magnificent foxface, got one that was small, it was very rough watching my zoa colonies dissappear.

Back when I had mine, I didn't have corals. However, I had a ton of inverts and he never touched any. Matter of fact, he even slept inside my feather duster

As for your lyretails, are they are hard to keep full? I usually do 1 daily feeding, I dont know if anthias would thrive, I heard they need multiple feedings

I feed 2x day, pellets on autofeeder at 2, LRS reef frenzy in the evening. Not sure if they would thrive on 1 feeding a day.

I'll hold back for sure until I can maintain that. Are dwarf angels a good choice to add? Hard to find something with good size to fill up the space in my 125g

I think you will get mixed responses on angels as well. What I have read they tend to pick on sps. Hopefully someone with more experience will comment on this.

I️ had mine in this 125 for years
He’s pretty much Reef safe
As said before if a new price comes in with a piece of algae it will get “nipped” at
All in all a great fish

I would watch that large mushroom coral they like to kill fish at night. They curl up and fish swim into them and the close up on them. Lost a nice pair of breeding clown fish to one 20 years ago.

I wouldn't say they are reef safe. Like all things, it depends on the fish. I've always had one, (2) but I've had to move some corals as a result. Mine tends to eat polyps. Not all kinds, but some. Small Zoe's, pagoda cup polyps.. It would try to get the algae or the stuff my toadstool was shedding. As a result my toadstool would keep its polyps retracted much of the time. They just pick like tangs, but unlike tangs are with algae, if they find a coral they like they'll decimate it. And it doesn't matter how much you feed it. So just be aware. Fortunately I have two display tanks so I can just move stuff as needed.

I have had a few fox faces over the years. Right now I have a hybrid one spot. Live aquaria states them as "with caution" because they are known to nip at some corals. In my experience they tend to accidentally nip at zoa skirts, not to the point of killing off anything. Sometimes if you have no algae and have been negligent on feeding algae sheets atleast a couple times a week they may nip other corals. My current hybrid 1 spot has nipped at some of my sps which I have never experienced before. He is getting ready to for his eviction notice as it has out grown the current tank it is in. Luckily I have a nutrient rich tank with yummy stuff in it

Are foxfaces and its variants reef safe? LFS having some sales on foxfaces, thinking about picking one up. I have heard mixed things. They have a young magnificent and one spot and the regular as well. When I say "reef safe" I mean safe with Corals and Inverts.
