I have a fox face in a mixed reef tank. He has been a happy fish for a while, but is looking a bit skinny and is not moving as much now. I haven't seen the brown spots that those fish get when they are stressed (except for the other day when I was floating a bag in the tank with a new coral), but something seems off.

I wonder if it is malnutrition. I know the fish is an herbivore, but it lines up with the rest of the group and chows down on the frozen brine shrimp with spirulina. I do add some herbivore food from time to time, but the fish is really interested in the frozen brine shrimp.

The fox face is not being messed with by the other fish.

Is there a specific type of food I should be using or something I should be doing?

Provide grazing opportunities, such as nori for the foxface.

Also, foxfaces can be a skittish fish, so any activity in the tank can cause it to show stress coloration for a few days.

Try mysis in addition to nori and spirulina or a mixed food like Rods Food or LRS Reef Frenzy. These foods have higher nutritional value than frozen brine shrimp. Rods Food also makes a herbivore mix that is supposed to be very good for fish like Foxfaces.

Exactly what I was going to say

Mine to is a bit skitish. He'll actually change his color to a "camouflaged" type pattern. Also his dark spot comes and goes. I feed him a mixture of green flakes and standard chow with some meysis shrimp a few times a week.

I agree with this as well.
Nori is great for them and I feed my tank a full sheet on a daily basis. Also NLS pellets are very good as well. you can also add selcon or vitamins to the food.
Other possibilities could be internal parasites if it wasn't qt.
