I’ve had my one spot foxface for three weeks. He eats like a champ, swims around the tank, doesn’t fight with anyone and is a pretty chill fish albeit a little skittish. Overall, his health seems fine, but he is still running a patch of black on his back telling me it’s stressed. Is he still just settling in?

parameters:

1.026 sg
pH 8.3
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 10
Alk 7
Phos .03
Calc 430

Mine did that all of the time. I think the darker colors are better than when to pull all of their color in and go pale. My kids called it the cow fish when it would go into cammo mode.

I’ve had foxfaces in the past that were almost always bright yellow, so now with my current foxface my wife complains because it isn’t as colorful as it “should” be. It’s a horrible pic that I found on my phone but this is essentially how my foxface always looks.

Yours looks to be fairly young/small. In my experience, the young ones stay partially to fully darkened more than the adults. I currently have 2 onespot foxfaces ~2.5-inch in a QT on my desk at work that are usually mostly black since they see me move in my chair regularly and are still nervous.
