Hi,

Just looking at fish for my 90G reef tank which has been going for a few months now. Very lightly stocked currently and I’m looking at adding a fox face.

My LFS has some ‘tiny’ Siganus Vulpinas in stock at the minute but no one spots. There seems to be a big difference in minimum tank size on these two. One spot being okay for my 90G for life it seems but foxface needing 125G plus.

This is quite a big difference! Is this really justified in people’s experiences?

TIA

I have all three and honestly it’s just a personal preference. For me, my fav is the magnificent. Anyway, they will all get big and you might need a bigger tank later — 8-10+in when fully grown in the wild. Mine is 6” and will likely grow to 8” in a big tank! They are cool looking and good algae eater. Get a small/medium one and enjoy! Besides, if it outgrow your tank in the (near) future, it will be way easier to build a case with your significant other! lol

No size difference in them, its just the colors and regions they are from tgats the difference

If you go for a Foxface in a 90G tank, Magnificent is perfect. Mine was 7 inches and my original was 6-7 inches. Mine were in 4-5 foot tanks (my most recent was in a 5’ with 2 other Rabbits and my last one was in a 4’ tank with 1 other Fox).

The thing with all Foxfaces people forget is they may be big but they’re not like tangs. I work around 7-8 in 8-9’ frag trays and see the same behaviours;
They don’t swim constantly, tangs never stop swimming. These guys like to regularly hover in certain regions in the tank. Due to this, I would say most species are going to work in the 90, especially the Magnificent and Bicolours, the only ones I’d say probably won’t work long term in a 90 just due to size is Unimaciulatus (One Spot) and Niger (Tongan Black).

Here’s my other two Rabbits - Bicolour Fox and a Scribbled Rabbit.
