Foxface - wider and shallower tank or taller?

Looking at tanks in the 75-125G range, and I want to get a fox face. I saw a WB frag tank in the store and absolutely loved it. But I’m wondering whether it would be better to get a taller tank with less width or the wider and shallower tank. Thanks!

I believe the WB frag tank is 16"? Depending on how deep your sandbed is and how much rock you will have, it could work. If you have a good 14" of vertical space for the most of the length of the tank, the ff should be fine. I would suggest getting a one-spot as they are the smallest, and buying a 2-3 inch fish. I have one that's about 7 inches long, but he's also 5-6 years old. I definitely would put a cover on the tank- screen top, eggcrate, etc. Foxes can get spooked and need hiding places so the extra horizontal depth of the tank your talking about is good- you could leave a 3-6 inch space at the back behind the rocks, or add some caves/overhangs.

Thanks. I’m upgrading from a smaller tank and have a blue spot jawfish. Because of this, I have a 4 inch sand bed. I was thinking of doing a tiered sand bed that slopes down or even one where the ends are deep beds and the middle is shallow. Would this be problematic for the fox face? If half the tank is too shallow, it would rule out that option. I would definitely do the one spot and a cover since the jawfish can be a jumper, too.

It really depends on the specific fish. I say go for it, but start with a very small specimen. There's another thread that just started asking about fox faces that might provide you more information.
