I was wondering if i can run a grow out tank using same sump from display tank. I dip all my corals before placing them in the grow out tank. Im just curious if anything can travel to the display if i do this and if it will cause any potential problems
Thanks in advance

If there’s anything in there yes it will eventually go to your display. I don’t see any problems with your plan as long as your sump is already larger than your display needs and can handle another tank plumbed into it without making the water level fluctuate.

Long story short had to move. going from a 75 g to a 40 g using same 30 gal sump and all the hardware. It should be able to handle a 10 g grow out tank.
Thanks for the advice

It adds a layer of complexity to the plumbing, system management, etc., but it is a viable approach. It is important to view all connected tanks as a single system. Good luck!

I have all the gear just starting over in a smaller space and system. Never done a grow tank but would like to stock up on some corals and have a diversity of coral to choose from as my tank grows i can put diffrent things together

One specific thing to consider is that adding additional tanks to an existing tank/sump system may change the sump max fill level.

I dont use my sump, but i have a separate tank plumbed into my system just for frags in my stand, if you have room, its not hard to do if you are gravity draining the frag tank. I use a 15 column which is tall, I elevated it 4 inches, and drilled it. It drains perfectly into the sump and is fed by my display drain lines, but could have just of easily put a pump in my sump to get water flow. Might not be what youre looking to do, but an option none the less. Its in my build thread in my name signature..
