Got this zoa frag today and noticed while I’m floating it this little tree looking guy. I’ve seen them at the LFSs before but what are they? Good bad?

I may be an aiptasia but it could also be something else like a hydroid. Not sure exactly. If it is an aiptasia thats a no go. They reproduce quite fast and can sting and move onto coral once in your system.

Apitasia, bad.
try to remove it out of the tank.
Check this out for more help

Ok I thought it might be aptasia but I’ve never seen one before. I’ll try to pull it off before we go in the tank. I do have a peppermint shrimp that I unterstand can eat aptasia so hopefully that lazy shrimp finally does something good!

Its an aptasia, while in the bag, IF you can get to base, scrape off, otherwise Using syringe, inject either lemon juice or better yet. . kalkwasser powder mixed with tank water into a paste the consistency of toothpaste and inject into the very center core and it will melt away

Yeah, peppermint shrimp are a 50/50 with aiptasia.

Not sure if pulling it off will work, as they leave a piece of them on the frag/coral and that can grow and reproduce rapidly. Try to scrape it off with a blade or use a different method of eradication.
