An evil cowrie snail ate the middle of my birdsnest frag as well as a handful of zoas and other corals. Needless to say he’s gone now. I’m wondering if th me the flesh of the birds nest will grow back or if I should frag the healthy parts? It’s looked like this for the past couple weeks, it’s not getting any worse.

Wait for it to heal up a bit first. There is no hurry if the damage is not spreading - if it is spreading, then you have no choice but to frag now. Healed corals can handle cutting better.

What kind of cowrie was it?

A money cowrie. Took out part of that birdsnest plus completely destroyed a different birdnest frag, cleared 4 plugs of zoas and took a chunk out of a blasto. All within a couple days.

Never heard of that happening. Mine are model citizens.

Yeah me neither. I guess it was starving. It started chowing down the day we brought it home. My husband said it started sucking on his hand when he took it out of the bag

Wow, so the root of all evil was really just a reference to a snail after all.
