I got tired of the frag racks in my DT so I plumbed a IM10 into the sump of my DT. My thoughts were it will have the exact same water chemistry so I can quickly move stuff between the two tanks. I used sand and a rock from my DT so I figured I’d have no issues. Well I immediately started having algae problems in it. It was pretty bad I even moved a tang in there temporarily that I was rehoming to see if it would take care of the issue but that didn’t work. I was about to take it down but I decided to throw a bunch of snails in there and see if they would help and voilà that was the answer. The pics below are during the initial proccess before the super star clean up crew did it’s magic.

I had the same experience when I added a small expansion tank onto my main system, to keep frags. All Frag, Plus Light, Nothing else ==> Algae. Handful of Snails completely fixed it. I do keep tangs in the tank as well, which requires me to feed them - which I don't think is bad for the corals stored there.
