I have only been in the hobby around a year, but what I am seeing is insane prices online.
Along with price, size, online is most microscopic frags. Sizes like .7-1.5 inches or 2 maybe 3 heads on average.

example: just saw a Bubble Coral 2 inches for $49.99 online, but I bought one for 29.99 that was about 4 inches.

I notice this a lot, why are online prices so high and that's even including shipping?

I just ordered a bunch of corals from one of our sponsors, yourreef.com and thought their prices were great!

Some websites don't update prices often enough and can reflect pricing from when a certain piece is more rare or not readily available.

However, if you can find something cheaper else where then buy it. that's called capitalism .....

I think this may be regional. The corals I see at my LFS are often more expensive once they are normalized (eg; cost per head/polyp/inch/etc.). Not to mention, the ones that my LFS has are often lower-grade.

If you've got an LFS that has corals you want for a good price, I would consider yourself lucky, in other words. Congrats!

Buy from local shops in your area
Buy from online vendors that are within your state. You might get cheaper shipping
Wait till holidays or buy during lives sales.Discounted corals

Sometimes you can see some nices coral pieces expensive on one site and on other sites its far less cheaper.

I usually try to wait and buy online when I can get free shipping with a large order. Shipping livestock is very expensive and prices on coral keep going up for various reasons. Many vendors cut shipping prices but mark the coral up to make up for the cheap shipping and packing supplies. I also try to avoid the chop shop vendors that are all about the hype marketing.

I agree with Bronc-yourreef is a really good site for pricing but Ive noticed their stuff also comes with a lot of algae too.
I stick with a few core vendors that have sales every so often :) usually on here lol
