Hello,

Recently I brought a Red Sea Reefer XL300, there is quite a large space free next to the sump, I was just wondering what size tank could fit in there for maybe a quarantine or frag tank, but i’m not sure if I’ll need the space for other items... I have a cabinet next to my tank for all the supplements and foods etc, I currently have a Fluval EVO 13.5 setup and will be moving over to the 300 once it’s cycled.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

That side of the cabinet everyone uses for their electronics and dosing supplies usually.

Thought as much, I was planning on drilling the electornics to the roof or high up on that side, I may resort to auto dosers in the future but for now it’ll be manual

Really comes down to what are you overall plans for the system.

Exactly. Are you someone that loves trading or selling frags? Go frag tank. Have you been troubled by fish or coral diseases and don’t have any other place to put a QT tank? Go QT tank.

Or, if you’re not sure, just wait. Maybe you’ll want to put in a calcium reactor, or want a larger ATO. In my experience, the hobby will expand to fill the precious space. If you don’t know what you want to do with it now, don’t do anything and you’ll be glad you have the space later!

Do you currently have a QT tank? If not I would use it for QT. If you have QT, then frag tank. IMO QT>Frag tank.

I don’t think I’d set up a quarantine tank that close to my display tank. Chances are that any fish disease that’s in your QT tank will find its way into the display. Just my two cents and info I got after readinga few articles about QT setups.
Good luck with whatever you do with the space.
