I like any of the ceramic plugs available (Filterguyz has them). I don't like the plastic coral cradles that are available. For whatever reason, corals don't seem to grow much on them (for me) and they seem to have attachment issues. They are very light however. I currently have some spaghetti leather frags in my frag tank. The 3 inch frags have been in the sysytem for 9 months now. Frags from the same parent in the same system are 3 times larger on the ceramic disks as opposed to the coral cradles. I can't actually see any growth on the coral cradles.

Ive been using OceanWondersOnline.com They have great plugs of all shapes and sizes and great prices too.

If you plan on fragging (zoas only) a coral on a frag plug you will have better luck when you can cut into the frag disk. The reason I say this is because the stress of fragging is lessened when you can cut into the frag disc (non-ceramic) versus having to peel them off a hard disc.

I have both and if I were you I would buy something you can cut into.

The ceramic frag disks can be easily trimmed down or cut into using a bone cutter or dremmel or a $3.00 wire cutter from the hardware store. I just quartered one in less than 15 seconds. I know of a few guys that grow out a disk. Then cut it into pieces and remount them onto another disk or plug. IMO and in my experience it is a whole lot easier to mount a piece of the plug rather than peel off the mat and cut a polyp or two. Or better yet take your disk and put it on top of four other disks and let your colony grow onto the other disks. I have never lost a frag of zoanthids from cutting into a colony. The only time I have ever lost zoanthids was when i didn't wash my hands between fragging different types of zoanthids. And that was a lesson I learned early on.
