Hi all,

As fish lover, I didn't think I would ever get into coral keeping but it has now grabbed me firmly :D I am setting up my first frag rack and I don't have a very good spread of light at the edges of my tank as my tank should have 3 light units instead of 2. However I picked up a cheap second hand marine light to sit over the frag rack which will be stuck to my overflow box.

I don't have a Par meter but the light is powerful , so i'm not sure exactly what levels the light is putting out. As a starting point, could you recommend a general distance the rack should be from the light? The light is currently 7 inches from the water level and 11 inches in total from the rack. I have some frags on order, lps, sps and softies and I have noted all of their requirements. Most seem to require high to med light and the frags which require low light will go on the sand bed. I will acclimate them slowly to the light but what distance should I aim for as a starting point?

Thanks

I just ordered a cheap lux meter and a waterproof bag. If I place it on my frag rack, what lux reading should I be aiming for inorder to achieve med to high light levels?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey it really depends on the types of corals. Generally I would place the frag rack down mid tank, add corals and then slowly move them up!
