just put new black eggcrate on frag rack,,I washed it and scalded with hot water..
all it has done was grow this nasty dino looking snot..
my nutrients are pretty high already and cant figure how to get rid of it..
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The snot comes right back after lights come on the next day.
These pictures are taken an hour before lights go out after a 10 hour light cycle

I have a another frag tank 6" away on the same sump with halide lights on that one with no snot in that one

Is it just growing on the rack? Mayne its eating something from it. Looks like dinos.

Common occurrence for some brands.

Some have used a concentrated peroxide to clean them.

The theory is it’s some form of organic carbon leaching. Like VOCs from paint.

With the bubbles it looks like cyano to me. Eventually they should go away. I would siphon as much out as you can when doing water changes

I dont think its cyano,,its more brown like diatoms or dinos,,would love to get rid of it some how without taking all the frags off it ,,if I can

Sure looks like dinos to me. I’d try pulling it and putting white eggcrate just to see if it comes back on the white.

Well situations like this kinda boils down to bad water quality combo'ed with excessive lighting.

I would look hard at your water quality and research ways to lower excessive nutrients

If it is Dino’s lowering nutrients would make things worse....
Im thinking the same of not lowering nutrients,,im skimming non stop and adding Microbacter 7 trying to use another bacteria to try to out compete it..no skimming the day i dose Microbacter..
wish there was something I could do to fix this besides taking all the corals off of frag rack and taking out the eggcrate..
then again Microbacter might be lowering nutrients too ,,what cha think ?

It’s very common the grow this snot on egg crate regardless of nutrients.

Take it out and rinse it under fresh water, kills dinos almost instantly like any crustacean. After soaking for awhile, rinse it off, put it back.

Yes, I'm pretty certain those are dinos. Bubbles are characteristic of dinos and some forms of cyano, and yes it will continue leeching. But remove if you can, and wash it off.
