For give me for a newb question but just started getting into the coral. I have a couple of lps and zoa frags. Why do some people elect to use Frag shelves instead of just putting frags on rock? Thanks

I use egg crate for some until they grow a little and then glue to rock . I also drill holes in rock and put the frag plug in. U can also cut the end of the frag plug and just glue it to a rock as well. Frag shelves are movable so can move them around until the corals find them ideal lighting and then u can replicate that same light condition and flow on a rock . Hope this helps.

I attached pics
1st is the drilled rock 10 months ago and 4th pic is same drilled rock now. The 2nd and third pic is egg crate to hold zoas plugs thx

This is another drilled rock about 2 years old . I like the drilled rock look the best personally but it’s more work and just a personal preference . The frag racks do free up space though as you can put them anywhere with suction cups thx

Can I ask how you are drilling in tank? Or are you removing everything you drill?

I would assume no one drills in a tank of water, nothing about that seems safe.

I meant more along the lines of maybe a hand drill not electric, that could make for an eventful evening lol.
