So here’s a topic for debate. With the increase in saltwater related events nationally, does it help, hurt, or have no affect on the LFS? Locally it seems a handful of stores see these events as bad for their bottom line and the hobby. Some would rather have no part in the event or event see events not happen at all. Just wondering if this is common across the nation.

I think it hurts, as large purchase of coral will be done from this events as the buyers have variety to select from and Dry good vendors are available in this events.

Most events I’ve been has LFS presence at the event, and will pass out a discount to visit their store.
Despite a discount, I always make it a point to stop at as many as I can LFS’s in the area of an event.

I think it’s good, it also lets LFS get new rare frags to grow out then sell regularly as well. I could see how short term it would cause less sales, but pros long term.

Keep in mind also that swaps/events should bring in reefers who are not local, and will check out the LFS’s, creating potential new business.
