I recently set up my nuvo 20 gallon as a quick housing for some freshwater fish that had to be moved temporarily and I couldn't get myself to take the tank down when the fish were relocated. I slowly transitioned it into a saltwater tank and it is running 25-26 salinity right now. I was thinking about letting my pair of clowns take it for themselves, but I thought of a better idea, making it a reef tank/frag tank for selling or even displaying all my corals. With this I can finally put the type of fish I want into my main tank (butterflys,triggers,foxface,etc....but not all at once of course!) What tips do any of you guys have before I go into this? I was thinking of using live rock instead of egg crate because it would look better imo.... Maybe gonna add either a sand goby or a mandarin later on too. Thanks everyone!

Live rock would give you more surface area for good bacteria that would help bring down nitrates and keep them at a low oppose to having egg crate and the only bacteria being in your sand bed. If recommend a good clean up crew and throwing a skimmer on there.

I was thinking about getting a nano skimmer but maybe later because i don't want to put a large amount of money in this all at once, maybe ill throw media in for now to help rid toxins and stuff, I also think that live rock would be better too, thanks

seachem matrix bio media will help a lot. Cheap too

I'd bypass the sand goby, they will spit out sand all over your corals. BTDT:confused:

for a frag tank using something such as egg crate makes it easy to remove and clean every now and again, you could use live rock in the display part of the frag tank but if frags start to encrust onto the rock it will make it difficult and stressful on the frags to remove if/when sold.

I would put some live rock rubble in the compartments of the nuvo to help with this and use either egg crate or even frag racks to hold and display the frags.

I already have a bag of media in the back compartment for bacteria, do you think that would be enough or should i try to fit some rubble in as well? Maybe I could make a hybrid of egg crate and live rock so I could manage my corals that way. I just want it to be somewhat pleasing to the eye.

If you have pretty frags nobody will be paying attention to what they are sitting on, trust me ;)
