Frag tank Algea Problem

I will tell you right now the best way i have found and they clear up within days.

Urchin, hermits and Emerald Crabs.

I'll be trying this as my 125 is more of a refugium/algae scrubber than a grow out tank right now :(

Taking some pictures today, I also built a scrubber that is starting to collect algea, More of a brown colored though

Picture taken today, second day of dosing peroxide:

that looks more like byropsis than hair algae hard to tell in the pic though
does it have little needle looking leaves

Thats bryopsis, use H2O2 in a spray bottle for pinpoint control. I dip corals in a 10-1 water/H2O2 ratio for 5 min after using Coral Rx on all incoming frags

thanks, Today I notice huge polyp extesion on my SPS stuff. One of my huge colony has a little slime on some of its tips. Im sure Im burning that one peice a little. I will try to take a picture.

I absolutely love the h202 dosing for bryopsis elimination...the positives far outweigh the negatives imo.... I also notice much better PE on my sps when dosing h202...give it some time Bill, it will clear up with the peroxide

4th day dosing, Ok my one sps started to get burnt tips, I keep my alk steady at 9.2 but the peroxide has dropped my alk to 8.0-7.9, I cranked up the CO2 a tad, lets see what happens

you could also hit it with Tech M magnesium, if the bryopsis is lingering too long and the h202 is causing too many problems with your acros and alk

are you dosing the whole tank or just the frags? I don't see how the alk would drop, if you are just treating the frags.

I like the H2O2 idea. I've done this in the past but killed some SPS, because I overdid it. I have also found that if I dip the coral in a very high concentration of Magnesium (my Magnesium Chloride solution before dosing) for about 30 seconds, it will kill algae and not the coral.

I keep my flow in the frag tank pretty high and keep small zebrosoma tangs with my frags, to pic at the filamentous stuff as it grows. If you already have a pretty bad outbreak, urchins and big turbos will do the trick, as mentioned, but are bulldozers, also as mentioned :)

You can also leave the lights off on the frag tank for up to 3 days without killing the frags, in my experience. The corals are tougher than the algae in this regard. This works well for the cyano I sometimes get after feeding the frags heavily.

I have a small 30g frag tank plumbed into my main, my whole system Is 400 gallons, soIm dosing 30ml a day. Yesterday I took all the frags out removed the old infested egg crate ,dipped the corals in the peroxide and put the frag tank back together. Looks like new. I will continue the dosing for another 7 days or so. I dont know why my alk dipped a little becausse its been stable for 2+ years. The only thing I could think is the peroxide changed the alk becuase the next day I noticed some tips on one sps were burning

Increase your flow. I had bryopsis in my frag tank due to detritus settling. Tangs in the main tank take care of my algae, however I feel the frag tank is too small for a tang. Increasing flow helped. Also, decreasing locations where detritus could settle.
