I'm using an IM 25g Lagoon as a frag tank/invert QT. It comes with 2 filter socks. However, I was sitting her thinking that I don't really feed the tank (occasionally for the CUC that's currently in QT) and there really isn't a lot of larger particulate matter circulating, so should I just remove them? Since the majority of the "food" is planktonic type stuff like Reef Chili, I would think the filter socks might actually be detrimental whereas if I just removed them, anything that went through the overflows could just recirculate. One of the sides does have an InTank Fuge chamber with a Chaetomax behind it if that makes a difference to your thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts.

filter socks are not necessary on any system. They do however catch bigger matter that could get caught up in pump impellers.
All a matter of preference by you.
