Frag tank build

i dont know about the golden showers lol. I just have the heater laying around, and it is one of the submersible, set and forget kind.... might as well use it lol. I see that the tank comes with one of the ball joint flat head returns on it, what should I hook up to that? Any ideas on filtration? What is a kessil, and how much is it?

I think you'll love the JBJ tank....although I wouldn't from experience since you "friend" stole one from under me! :mad2:

All kidding aside, Kessil is a pendant style LED https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=kessil+led

depending on the heaters physical size, I'm not sure it'll actually fit in the tank.

Yea may not, I havent actually seen one in person.....

Im thinking on this guy as the skimmer?

On a frag tank that size. i'd just do water changes. skimmers that small are hard to adjust, at least that's been my experience with them. I'd go with a good light source and a good small powerhead to keep detritus from settling. Maybe use mechanical/chemical filtration in the rear chambers, and water changes to control nutrients. My experience with skimmers that small is that the pumps and reaction chambers are too small to be very efficient. I'd invest that money in a solid ATO like the Tunze ATO nano, to help keep the tank stable. It'll keep your ions from getting imbalanced, which is hard to correct when it gets to a certain threshold.

I just ordered the tunze nano ato. a smaller heater, and a a small power head... the hydor koralia nano. so now i need some suggestions on a light fixture.

Unless you're blowing water out of the tank, it's pretty hard to have too much flow, hahahaha. those Marineland/maxi jet powerheads are notorious for leeching voltage and malfunctioning. Probably a bit underpowered too though, as the range says 100-500gph?

Amazon.com : Jebao WP-10 Aquarium Wavemaker with Controller, 530 to 1000 GPH : Pet Supplies

These little Jebao ones are pretty solid for the money, and they're controllable.

+1 on this. It's exactly what I have in mine. Total controllability.

As far as skimmers go.....the CAD lights PLS 50 I have is impressive. Completely worth it.

Back to the light question....

I have one of these in my closet:

Amazon.com : Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED Light, 18 to 24-Inch : Aquarium Lights : Pet Supplies

With the tank being so shallow, wouldn't it be plenty? Keep in mind, I'm only p,an investment on keeping Lps, softies, shrooms, etc... I don't really care for Sps as much.

I have the Hydor nano in my wife's 7 gallon and it's still under-powered, I agree 100% with Cory on ueing the Jeabo pump. If you're looking for a good economical LED fixture, try this one https://www.reefbreeders.com/nano-lite/
